Balancing Work Life, School Work, and Household Responsibilities

As the current semester is ending, looking back on it now, I can say this has been the most exhausting since I started my university journey 5 years ago. I’ve had many an occasion where I had to pull aside on my way home for work to take a quick nap to make it safely home. I think it was the combination of starting a new job so far away from home, my wife working shift also far away from home and making the decision to do 4 classes instead of the typical 3 this semester.

I have not been able to escape from early morning and late-night even on the weekend. Classes overall have not been any more difficult than your typical university curriculum but being back and forth on that 1 ½ hr drive sometimes twice daily with the addition of assignments has been tough. So far, I have been able to keep up with assignments and projects, I am happy about that. Luckily, I have not thrown a newborn into that mix.

I have tried starting to get some exercise in starting with once a week doing about a 3k walk. It’s not much but we all have to start somewhere. I decided that I needed a more concrete goal in mind to get my health in order. So, I have decided that I will be training to run a 5k something I’ve never done. I’m giving myself 4-6 months to get myself in the conditioning to make that possible. Hoping to accomplish about 3 days a week of training to get that done.

I look forward to the December break and the downtime that comes with it. As a gear up to restart the next year and the next semester working towards my BASc Network and Telecommunication Engineering.
